  2. When Hannah’s transported back in time she changes a lot both physically and mentally. For example on page 44 it says, “Gone were her braces. Gone was the light coral lipstick her mother had allowed her to wear to the Seder.” Hannah doesn’t feel like the same person. No one believes her that she lived in America or that her best friend was Christian. She wonders if her life in America was just a dream. In this new little village Hannah becomes aware of many things that she wouldn’t have the thought to recognize before.

  3. The character changes dramatically in this book. Hannah at first was celebrating Passover with her parents and relatives. Deep inside, she loves and cherishes her family, but on the outside, she seemed like she hates celebrating with her family and wants to leave (20). Then, suddenly she opens the front door and seemingly finds herself in the time of the Holocaust. She has no idea how she got there and doesn’t know anything. Hannah cries every day and night. She doesn’t even know why people are calling her Chaya. As time goes on, she learns the traditions in the “new world”. Some of these are dances or songs. This is helping her get a better understanding of her family’s history.

  4. Hannah changes her attitude a lot. She used to always want her way and disrespect her family and now that she’s with a family that she doesn’t know as well she gives them all her respects and does what she is told. Hannah is not only made to do stuff she doesn’t want, but she also is forced to wear clothes that she would normally not wear. “Gone were her braces. Gone was the light coral lipstick her mother had allowed her to wear to the Seder,” Hannah said. This is just an example of how the things that Hannah was allowed to do are not allowed at her new house in this new time. Now that Hannah is in this new time she wants to make it right for the people there from stuff that she has learned about. She also is learning a lot more details in which will make it easier for her to understand what happened.

  5. I found out that while she was in a shower with cold water, the soldiers took her clothes. Also, a barber, who is actually a prisoner, cuts and shaves her hair. Another thing that really sturk me is Gitl saying those quotes to Hannah which changes her attiude. Do you think Gitl's quotes could be good theme statements and why?
