  1. The main character Hannah is a little sassy and seems to always want her way. When Shmuel finally gets to Hannah he points his finger at her and says, “Pretty girl, with faraway eyes” (55). Hannah comes off as a younger girl in an older body. I can infer based on the context clues that Hannah (Chaya) is smart, wise, and respectful. I think this because she always nice to other people and other peoples parents. She didn’t want to wear the dress mentioned on page 42 because she thought it was ugly but wore it anyways. She knows what things are right and what things are wrong and that makes her both smart and wise in recognizing that.

    1. I agree with your inference I also think that Hannah is now maturing in a different way then she would if she were still living in America with easy access to everything.

  2. Traits that Hannah (Chaya) and Gitl share is bravery and strength. For example on page 95 it says, “But promise me you will cry no more before these monsters. We will never cry again.” Gitl says this to Hannah. This piece of dialogue is practically saying that they can’t show anymore fear because people will get the idea that their just like all of the others who are greatly suffering.

  3. At the beginning of the story, the main character seems mean to everyone because she mentions on page 11 that she is tired of remembering, tired of listening to her family’s stories and tired celebrating Passover with them. But, once she starts living in the Polish Village of 1942, she seems to dramatically change. She starts being nicer to everyone. During the village’s traditional dance, a man came to Hannah and started singing a song to her “Pretty girl, with faraway eyes; old girl in young-girl disguise” (54). She has become more beautiful as an old girl in a young girl disguise. Also, Hannah shows bravery and strength throughout the book.
