  1. One possible theme that I see emerging is, to never doubt someone especially yourself. Hannah (Chaya) starts to doubt herself and thinks that her prior knowledge of the Holocaust isn’t that truthful and it starts to fade away from her. But when she does start to remember something she forgets almost instantly. No one believed her when she was telling them about what she knew about the Holocaust and they all thought it was nonsense (78). Hannah started to doubt herself because she didn’t know which life was real anymore.

    1. I agree with your inference because instead of doubting yourself, you should always beleive in yourself.

  2. Possible themes for The Devils Arithmetic are being thankful for what you have because you never know when it will be gone. Once Hannah opens the door and changes time periods it makes her think about what she had now that she lost it. Hannah is stuck with another family in which makes her realize she loves her family and she should have never taken that for granted. On page 58 it talks about how Hannah gets introduced to the others as Chaya and Gitl’s niece, this is very different for Hannah because she is not used to anything going on.
